We must relate to knowledge and information, and the process of communication. Thinking is one aspect of finding analysing and communicating information.

Reasoning:

Understanding and exploring relationships between events objects and ideas.

things can only be understood in relation to other things. everything is interconnected.

Reasoning is a complex weave of abilities, to explain, generate and evaluate. it comprises two structures, how things relate to each other at any moment and how things relate to each other over time.

Connections:

similarities/differences, commonality/inconsistency, neccesity and sufficiency.

How we use reasoning:

arguing, explaining, making decisions, predicting the future, exploring issues, finding answers, justifying actions.

To be a good thinker you must become aware of the analytical processes of reasoning. constantly assess structure and framework of information.

Questions to ask:

  • is there consistency
  • what are my assumptions
  • am i open to alternative conclusions
  • different perspectives

how long is your concentration

when do you feel most alert

where are the places you study best

what concentration span do u have for different activities

Read widely

Why read?

to evaluate, to locate specific information, understand reasons and facts, enjoy words and descriptions, read creative literature, leisure and entertainment.

Reading to find information:

look at title, author, contents, index, skim read, abstract summarys, diagrams, read first paragraph/sentence.

SQR3 method, survey, question, read, recall, review.
